    •   Confirmation

"O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams."
      —St. Augustine
    • The Sacrament of Confirmation is the third of the three sacraments of Christian Initiation (along with Baptism and Eucharist). In Confirmation, we receive a deepening of the Holy Spirit, just as the disciples received at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-11). It perfects baptismal grace, and seals us with the gift of the Holy Spirit to root us more firmly in Christ, and strengthen our bond with the Church.  It is Sacred and requires preparation just like the other Sacraments.

In the Diocese of Richmond, the Sacrament of Confirmation is typically conferred in 10th grade, however, teens who are in 11th and 12th grade may also receive the Sacrament.  We invite all teens in grades 10th - 12th to discern the choice to receive the gift of the Sacrament of Confirmation.

What are the components of Youth Confirmation preparation?

      • Attend weekly Mass and Holy Days of Obligation
      • Confirmation Preparation Orientation meeting (Parent and Teen)
      • Confirmation Preparation Sessions
      • Confirmation Retreat
      • Confirmation Rehearsal and Liturgy

Please Note:  SJA teens interested in Confirmation Preparation, regardless of which High School they attend (public, private, homeschool or CHS) should register for Confirmation Preparation at St. John's.

For more information or to ask questions about the Sacrament of Confirmation, please feel free to reach out to us.
